The Ernst Strüngmann Institute (ESI) once again has a husbandry license in accordance with Section 11 TierSchG. The relevant regulatory authority has confirmed the expertise of the responsible veterinarians as well as the suitability of the facility. This means that primate-specific research is once again permitted.
The decision is the result of an intensive official procedure over the past year. For the ESI, it is both a confirmation of the quality of its work and an obligation to continue along this path in a conscientious and transparent manner.
Experiments on non-human primates follow clear ethical guidelines and are scientifically unreplaceable: In an interview with the FAZ, Prof. Lothar Willmitzer, Managing Director of the Ernst Strüngmann Institute, explains why he believes such experiments are justified.
